LAKEDOWN TROUT FISHERY

10th Dec

Despite the weather it was a superb week at Lakedown.  We welcomed Tunbridge Wells fly fishers on Saturday for their Fur and Feather and they were rewarded for braving the storm with a couple of rainbows over 7lbs and a couple of brownies over 4lbs.  Earlier in the week Mark and Peter also had rainbows over 8lbs and over half a dozen 5-6lbers were caught.  Over-all the catch rate was just above 80% with the majority of fish coming from lakes 3 and 4 (as 1 and 2 are slightly coloured up from the rain).  As per usual, black is the colour of choice and most anglers arfe having success on an intermediate line.

18th November

The fishing remained consistently good for yet another week at Lakedown.  All lakes were clear although todays rain has caused lake 1 to muddy up and lake 2 to become slightly discoloured.  Last week the catch of the week was landed by Micky Heasman; a lovely 7.2lb rainbow from lake 2.  Another 8 fish over 5lbs were also caught with an overall catch rate above 80%.   Lures are still working best with black being the colour of choice

12th November

The kids have been smashing it over the last 2 weeks with the 4 anglers under 14 weve had in catching a whopping 31lbs of fish between them!  All lakes are clear and have been fishing very well with barely any blanks reported.  As usual lures are catching as are nymphs.

28th October

The fabulous fishing continued at Lakedown last week with over 100 fish landed, with a catch rate of 85%.  Yet again over half a dozen fish around the 5-6lb mark were landed, and a couple of lovely 8lbers too.  All lakes are clear and have been fishing well (Lake 1 in particular probably due to the fact that after being muddied up for so long, most of the stock in there had never seen a hook before.). The usual lures are doing best....cormorants, tadpoles, Montanas cats whiskers etc.  colours in general are black green and orange

21st October

Bar a few random off days, its been a superb couple of weeks at Lakedown. With lakes 1 and 2 being a bit coloured (yet fishable) lakes 3 and 4 have been producing the most fish, and some stunners to boot.  As well as over half a dozen 5-6lbers the notable catches have been a 9lb rainbow from lake 3 and an 7.12lb rainbow from lake 4. The average has been just over 2 fish per rod (an average catch rate of just over 80%)  Black and white lures have been working best

8th October

Now that’s more like it! Following a slow week, the fishing over the last few days has been superb! Averaging over 2.3 fish per rod, and with 8 fish landed between 4.8-7lbs, anglers have been having a great time at Lakedown. Thank you to Jo And Micky for organising and supporting the fidelity event on Saturday. All lakes are now clear and although some rain is forecast this week it looks like we will miss the heavy downpours which discolour the water! Fingers crossed!

1st October

The last 2 weeks have been harder than we would have expected.  With a healthy stock of fish going in the lakes every week since the start of September, since the last catch report the average gas only been about 1.3 fish per rod.  That said we have had a number of lovely 5-6lb rainbows out the pick of which was a fin perfect 6.2lb rainbow from lake 3 caught by Sam Mepham.  Green and black are the colours working best and the water is now a very comfortable 14 degrees.  We will; be stop king again this week so finger crossed things will be easier!  Lakes 1 and 2 have muddied up after the down pour of the last 2 days but lakes 3 and 4 still have good visibility

17th Sept

Its been great to see a regular flow of anglers on the banks after a very slow summer.  And its no wonder.......the cold nights have bought the water temperature right down to around the 16 degree mark and the new stock of fish are loving it.  Most anglers are avoiding a blank, with a number over the weekend catching their 3 fish bag before midday..  The notable catches of the week have been a 4lb rainbow and a fin perfect 3lb brown from lake 3.  There have also been a number of comments on how well the fish are fighting which is great to hear.  Very little has been caught off the top and it appears that intermediate lines might be the best choice at the moment.  Its also been great to see such a wide variety of flies catching, from Ally Mcoists to mullet Bachs, to Montanas.

10th Sept

After last weeks double stocking the fish took a few days to settle, but with the water a reasonably comfortable 18 degrees,. once they did fishing picked up well.  Over the weekend only 1 angler blanked with the best catch being a rainbow just over 4lbs caught by regular mr Farley

 

 

3rd Sept

WE ARE BACK!  The New season is upon us and we will begin stocking this Thursday.  With fish now coming from Manninfgford and weighing it at a 3lb average, we have raised our ticket price by £1 per fish but hopefully the size and quality of the new stock will keep everyone happy!
